Podcast 2 Color theory


Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allow us to see color?
Visible Light
Describe white light.

How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
We see what they reflect of the visual light spectrum
What is a glass prism?
Transparent and triangular object when white light is shown through all colors show
What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?

All wave lengths are reflected back to your eye

No light is reflected back to you eye
How color is perceived depends on what?

What is a color wheel?
Shows relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors
What are primary colors? Name them?
Blue Red Yellow
What are secondary colors? Name them?
Purple Green orange
What are tertiary colors? Name them?
Red-Orange, Yellow-Ornage, Yellow-green, Blue-Green, Red-Purple, Blue-Purple
What are neutral colors? How can they be created?

How can a neutral color help a design?
Help bring our focus or tone down a picture
What are complementary colors? Name them?
Colors opposite of each other. Red and Green, orange and blue, yellow and purple
What is color value?
Lightness or darkness of color
What is a shade?
color that had white added to it
What is a tint?
Color that had white added to it
What is saturation/intensity?
Brightness of a color
What happens when you mix complementary colors together?
you get neutral colors
Describe color harmony?
Pleasing arrangement of colors
What is a color scheme?
Harmonious color combinations
Describe a monochromatic color scheme?
Uses values of 1 color
Describe an analogous color scheme?
3 colors next to each other on color wheel
Describe a complementary color scheme?
2 colors opposite of each other on the color wheel
Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
2 colors opposite of each other and 2 colors next to 1 of them

What colors are considered to be warm colors?
warm vivid colors found in nature. Red orange yellow

Bold and energetic
What colors are considered to be cool colors?
greens blues and purples

Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?
so you get the desired response and message

Review Week 6


What is the pen tool used for?
Creating line and tracing patterns and textures

How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool, pen+, pen-, and convert too.
Pen+ : Adds more anchors so you can manipulate the line/shape where you choose.
Pen- : Rids line/shape of anchors you don't want
Convert tool : turs paths into corners and corners into paths

How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?
You can add a new layer, Hide a Layer, lock a layer or delete a layer

How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?
You make a shape w/ no line and no fill around the area you want to keep. You make sure its at the top and then select everything. Go under object -> Clipping Mask -> Make

Review Week 5

SHAPE

A poster for the classic game of TETRIS. This poster uses shape very well even though all the shapes are made up of Squares it makes it 3-d. Making the audience want to play.



LINE
This Poster may not be serious but it's a perfect example of the use of line. The lines used here are coming from the duck, which causes us to go there 1st. And the lines are bright and colorful making it more interesting.


TEXTURE
This AD for a phone uses texture perfectly. ItMakes the audience think that the phone is awesome and can handle anything. It is directed towards teens.



SPACE
An Add for a show called Space. They also utilized space within the picture very well. The black space in between the objects makes us feel that the space in between them is great not just a few inches.




VALUE
This a Poster for the Game Limbo. The poster uses value to show light and dark spaces. This effect of value cases a mysterious feel to it.
